The importance of cycling and sports hydration:
- Strenuous exercise in summer can lead to excessive sweating and water loss of up to 1 to 3 kg.
- When the body loses 3% of its water, athletic performance (e.g., endurance) declines, causing discomfort.
- Dehydration of 5% to 6% can start affecting cognitive functions, leading to headaches, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and increased body temperature.
- At 7% dehydration, symptoms like confusion, incoherent speech, fatigue, and even muscle cramps may occur.
- Experiencing these symptoms while cycling is extremely dangerous, increasing the risk of accidents and potentially causing irreversible damage to the body. Therefore, timely hydration is essential.
How do you hydrate?
- A bike can typically be equipped with two water bottles (600ml each), allowing you to drink one per hour and avoid dehydration.
- Develop a habit of taking two sips of water every 15 minutes (approximately 50ml per sip). Moisten your lips first, then swallow in three small gulps to stay consistently hydrated.
- Water at 9 to 16°C passes through the stomach the fastest and is most easily absorbed by the colon.
- In addition to staying hydrated, it is also crucial to replenish electrolytes and salts.

2. Since the bottle is not heat-resistant, do not place it in a sterilizer for disinfection, as this may also cause deformation. Instead, clean it with mild water below 70°C.
If the kettle has an odour (caused by having filled it with some flavoured drinks you can also do this):
1. Cola or Vinegar Soak Method – Fill the bottle with cola or boil vinegar, then add two slices of lemon. Let it soak for half a day to a full day. This helps remove odors and loosens residue buildup on the bottle walls.
2. Toothpaste Cleaning Method – Squeeze a small amount of toothpaste into the bottle, add warm water, and scrub thoroughly with a sponge to reach every corner. Rinse with water to eliminate any unpleasant odors.
3. Milk Cleaning Method – First, wash the bottle with detergent. Then, pour two tablespoons of fresh milk into the bottle, close the lid, and shake for about a minute. Discard the milk and rinse thoroughly for a fresh, clean bottle.
4. Citrus Peel Deodorization Method – Wash the bottle with detergent, then place fresh orange or lemon peels inside. Close the lid and let it sit for about four hours before rinsing. Apple, grapefruit, and other citrus peels can also be used for the same effect.
